Our Members don’t only “put the wet stuff on the hot stuff”. They also act in a proactive manner to prevent fires and other emergencies.
In 2010 we are involved in the following safety and awareness initiatives:
- worked with Mount Barker Community College to educate students about the “Stay & Defend, or Go & Go Early” campaign.
- carried out controlled burns on a number of bush blocks around town.
- participated in the Plantagenet Shire Local Emergency Management Committee.
- had representation on the Plantagenet Shire Roadwise Committee.
- had representation on the Plantagenet Shire Bushfire Advisory Committee.
- provided fire and rescue support to the local Speedway.
- worked with Mount Barker Community College and Saint John Ambulance for MBCC’s “BUZ Week” activities.
- work with local schools, kindy etc to provide fire safety education with an “Open Station” week. (“Emergency Services Week”)
- carried out a major incident exercise with the Mount Barker Police, St John Ambulance and Mount Barker Community College called “Leavers’ Alive”.
We hope to do the following things by the end of 2010.
- visit the Plantagenet District Hospital for a familiarisation & pre-plan.
- carry out more controlled burns around the town site.
- work with Mount Barker Community College for their annual “Mud-run”.
